Just heard on longnow a parable about a tribe and their wise leader:

There once lived a tribe of blind people. And they were governed by a wise man who was also blind. One day the wise man had a revelation about a great danger that threatened the survival of his tribe. He called everybody up for a council and, in his gravest voice, said, "My people, we all are in terrible danger. We live on the edge of a precipice. Run for your lives!"
