...Schkade and Kahneman (1998) call the focusing illusion. In a fascinating demonstration, Schkade
and Kahneman asked students at universities in the Midwest and in California to judge their own happiness and the happiness of students at the other location. The comparison highlighted the advantages of California — better climate, more cultural opportunities, and greater natural beauty.
