Que seulement 53 % de ces mêmes Français souhaitent la victoire des Américains et jusqu'à 33 % celle de l'Irak de Saddam Hussein signifie tout autre chose : le triomphe de la démagogie et de l'ignorance et la défaite de tout esprit critique ­ comme si l'Irak était un Etat de droit à la souveraineté respectable, comme si son chef était un chef d'Etat légal, comme si l'endoctrinement stalinien et la terreur exercés sur toute une population pouvaient tenir lieu de démocratie. Voilà où l'on en arrive quand la politique internationale a été transformée en sujet pour le café du commerce.

Les analyses intellectuelles ne sont ni télévisuelles ni télégéniques. Une image ne prouve rien, mais elle est infiniment plus agréable et moins fatigante à regarder qu'un exposé compliqué d'une situation compliquée.
