so, the original sin appears to be learning how to multiply before(!) learning how to replenish the earth. then, after the sin is committed, the Lord God resorts to system-wide damage control: a) limit access to resources, i.e. "in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return to the ground"; b) limit the ability to multiply, i.e. "I will greatly multiply the pain of thy childbearing; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children."
