Explanation can tolerate a degree of chance, but it cannot comprehend freedom at all.... We have not told a story when we show that persons do whatever the do because they were caused to do it - by their genes, their social circumstances, or the influence of gods.
Explanations settle issues, showing that matters must end as they have. Narratives raise issues, showing that matters do not end as they must but as they do.
