In diametric opposition to the Platonic insistence on defining essences, Confucius related paradigmatic stories. Ch'an master Hui-neng put it htis way: "A true cultivator of the Tao doesn not see any errors in the world. If you see wrongs in the world, it is your own wrongs that are affirmed. We are to blame for the wrongs of others just as we are to blame for our own".
