it's funny how my mind works. you give it a problem, equip it with tools from all kinds of domains, and let it sink to the bottom of conciousness. then wait. and wait. and wait, until some time later a solution emerges from the depth of ... i don't know how to call that place-thing inside my head that ties all loose ends together. i wish i could understand how it works. not that i am completely oblivious to its methods. no. i can easily recognize the tools it uses for modelling and problem solving. after all, it was i who developed them and trained my mind to apply them to easier tasks. but it still escapes me how brain figures out which pattern to invoke when dealing with a particular situation... in any case, i think the "tooling" phase is missing from Csikszentmihalyi's creativity model.
